The wildest and most remote parts of Norway are where Lark Erin finds her tapestry images and inspiration.
This image is of the Lofoten Mountains - silhouetted by the northern lights. Do you see the silver lining after the storm?
Lark Erin is a second generation MFA earning tapestry weaver. She absolutely loves the color and texture found nowhere else, yet intrinsic to fiber.
This form of tapestry weaving is the traditional Aubusson technique she learned from Jean Pierre Larochette, a multi-generational French weaver. She weaves from the back side of the warp and stitches the cartoon onto the front, so she won't know the end appearance until the entire tapestry is completed.
Each tapestry is one of a kind. She uses heavy cotton warp for the weft, and cotton embroidery floss and metallic threads for the weft. Framed with custom varnished wood, this tapestry is 11 3/4" W x 8 6/8" H x 1 3/8" Deep.
Each Lark Erin tapestry is a work of other-worldly beauty, and an attempt to capture the ever elusive qualities in the natural world. When she weaves, her spirit dances, and when the tapestry is finished, the dance will live forever.
